SQL Server 2019 on Windows Server 2022

Автор: Derek Coleman & Associates Corporation

Enterprise SQL Server 2019 on hardened Windows Server 2022, production-ready for Azure.

SQL Server 2019 on Windows Server 2022 on Azure

A production-ready Microsoft SQL Server 2019 relational database engine running on a hardened Windows Server 2022 base, built and certified for the Azure Marketplace. SQL Server 2019 brings intelligent query processing, accelerated database recovery, and PolyBase connectors to the engine; Windows Server 2022 adds the current platform security baseline. Standing up a production SQL host by hand means installing the engine, applying current cumulative updates, configuring service accounts and firewall rules, hardening the OS, and passing Microsoft Marketplace certification. This image does all of that for you and rebuilds it cleanly every month.

Who this is for: Database administrators, .NET and line-of-business application teams, and ISVs who want an enterprise-optimized SQL Server 2019 host on the current Windows Server release without the manual install-and-harden cycle, including teams modernizing on-prem SQL workloads onto a consistent Azure baseline.

Target industries & use cases: Financial services, healthcare, retail, manufacturing, and government running line-of-business databases, application backends, transactional OLTP workloads, data marts, and reporting back-ends. Suited to ERP and CRM data tiers and consolidation of legacy SQL Server instances.

Value proposition: Each published image bundles the engine, the current updates, the Azure hardening, and the certification evidence:

  • Monthly patch cadence — each version is rebuilt from upstream Windows Server 2022 and SQL Server security updates within days of release
  • 33 documented hardening traps applied — every published version is gated through an automated trap-audit covering Trusted Launch, sysprep race conditions, Defender pre-installation, hardening-script residue, and 29 more
  • Trusted Launch + Secure Boot enabled by default — Gen2 image with vTPM and signed-boot configured per Microsoft’s OEM requirements
  • Azure VM Agent pre-installed and pre-configured — Custom Script Extension and Run Command work on first boot; RDP and WinRM management ready out of the box
  • Audit trail per release — build provenance and certification evidence retained for every published version

How this differs from rolling your own: A bare Windows Server 2022 image leaves you to source the SQL Server media, run the installer, chase the latest cumulative update, and apply the Azure-specific hardening (RDP lockdown, audit logging, Defender pre-install) production needs. This image arrives engine-installed and OS-hardened to the same fleet playbook as our other SQL Server and Windows images. SQL Server license per your selected plan and edition (BYOL or pay-as-you-go).

Recommended deployment: Standard_E4as_v5 or larger for general OLTP databases; Standard_E8as_v5 or larger for memory-heavy workloads. Place tempdb, data, and log files on separate Premium SSD or Premium SSD v2 data disks — not the OS disk. Enable Azure Backup with SQL-consistent snapshots.

Azure integration: Azure VM Agent, Trusted Launch + Secure Boot, Azure Monitor Agent, Azure Backup, SQL IaaS Agent extension, Azure Disk Encryption, and Microsoft Defender for SQL all attach via standard extensions with no compatibility shims.
