Spider visual

"Spider map visual" is a custom visual for Power BI designed to visualize train flows between stations in the form of a schematic network map. It displays nodes (e.g., stations, junction points, throat areas, tracks) and directed relationships between them (movements, sections, line/track connections). The visual enables quick identification of where and in what volume trains travelled, where overloaded sections occur, and how the flow changes by time, train type, or direction. What the visual shows • Node = track & infrastructure point  ○ the size and colour of the node correspond to the load (e.g., number of passages / number of trains) • Arrow = flow direction between two points  ○ the colour of the link indicates flow intensity  ○ the number on the link shows the specific volume (e.g., number of trains) Key Features • Flow Network View – A clear network of nodes and directed links that immediately shows where and in what volume trains passed • Conditional Formatting & Thresholds – Fully configurable rules for coloring nodes and links according to capacity limits • Layout Control – Automatic network layout for a quick overview + the option to fix node positions for a consistent “map” • Interactive Filtering & Highlighting – Clicking a node highlights inbound/outbound directions and links it with report filtering for fast analysis. • Directional Emphasis & Labels – Directional arrows and optional value labels directly on links, including readability settings. Typical use in practice • Management reporting: where we have the highest load and where capacity limits are at risk • Operational control: quick orientation on where the flow was rerouted (e.g., a closure/outage)
