Flow Tank Visual

FlowTank helps Power BI report authors explain how multiple inflow and outflow contributors combine into a final balance. The visual places inflows or sources of funds on one side, outflows or applications of funds on the other side, and the resulting surplus or deficit in a central tank, making it easy for business users to understand both the composition and direction of movement in one compact view. The visual is useful for finance, operations, sales, supply chain, and management reporting scenarios where users need to compare what enters and leaves a system. Common examples include revenue versus expenses, cash received versus cash spent, budget allocation versus utilization, source of funds versus application of funds, funding sources versus deductions, inventory intake versus consumption, and any other process with measurable inflow and outflow categories. FlowTank is designed for dashboards and analytical report pages where decision makers need a quick summary without losing category-level detail. Pipe thickness is proportional to the assigned amount, tank sections show the contribution of each category, and the balance indicator highlights whether the selected context has a positive surplus or negative deficit. Report authors can show or hide legends, tank labels, in-liquid item labels, and balance totals depending on the available space and audience. The visual works with native Power BI interactions, including tooltips, cross-filtering, cross-highlighting, keyboard focus, and high contrast mode. It uses the Power BI host formatting model and supports configurable colors, label content, label size, number display units, and decimal precision. Amount formatting follows the assigned Power BI field or measure format so currency symbols, decimal patterns, and grouping conventions remain consistent with the report. FlowTank does not require external services or web access.
