Retention-aware SharePoint document library viewer with compliance enforcement.
SafeView Library Viewer is a SharePoint Framework (SPFx) web part that provides a secure, read-only document library experience with deep compliance awareness. It displays a library in a configurable, paginated grid with folder navigation, breadcrumb trails, debounced search, sorting, grouping, and a context menu for open, download, edit metadata, delete, copy link, and view properties. Administrators can select the library and view to display, toggle the toolbar and folder navigation, and configure which columns are visible and in what order.
Its distinctive capability is deep integration with Microsoft's retention and compliance systems. Before any edit or delete, SafeView inspects each item's _ComplianceTag and _IsRecord properties and consults the Compliance API to determine whether the item is protected by a retention label or declared as an immutable record. Protected items are visually flagged with a shield icon and retention badge, and blocked operations surface clear user-facing messages. The system is fail-safe by design: if retention status cannot be verified, the operation is blocked rather than permitted — making SafeView well suited to regulated environments that require auditable governance controls.
LIMITATIONS: SafeView-LibraryViewer targets SharePoint Online document libraries only. It does not surface SharePoint lists, OneDrive personal storage, or external storage providers. Retention-policy enforcement requires that the tenant's Microsoft 365 retention labels are published and that the Compliance API is reachable from the user's session; SafeView is fail-safe by design and will block edit/delete operations when retention state cannot be verified. Folder navigation is a user-toggleable property — when disabled, folders are hidden from the grid and the breadcrumb is suppressed (a flat file-only view).
