A production-ready MySQL Server (MySQL 8.x Community) relational database running on a hardened Windows Server 2022 base, built and certified for the Azure Marketplace. This is the general-purpose production MySQL-on-Windows database server: a hardened, Azure-integrated host for business-critical MySQL workloads, with the InnoDB engine, replication support, and the full MySQL 8.x feature set. Standing this up by hand means running the installer, configuring the service and data directory, securing accounts, tuning the server, hardening the OS, and passing certification. This image does all of that and rebuilds it cleanly every month.

How this differs from rolling your own: A bare Windows Server 2022 image leaves you to fetch the installer, register the service, secure the root account, relocate the data directory, tune the server for production load, and apply the Azure-specific hardening (RDP lockdown, audit logging, Defender pre-install). This image arrives server-installed and OS-hardened to the same fleet playbook as our other database and Windows images, positioned for production deployment. MySQL Community Server is free, open-source software (GPL).

Recommended deployment: Standard_D4as_v5 or larger for production transactional databases; Standard_E4as_v5 or larger for memory-heavy workloads that benefit from a large InnoDB buffer pool. Place the MySQL data directory on a separate Premium SSD or Premium SSD v2 data disk — not the OS disk. Enable Azure Backup and binary-log backups for point-in-time recovery.

Azure integration: Azure VM Agent, Trusted Launch + Secure Boot, Azure Monitor Agent, Azure Backup, Azure Disk Encryption, Microsoft Defender for Servers, and Azure VM Run Command all attach via standard extensions with no compatibility shims.
