Objective Connect for SharePoint

por Objective Corporation Ltd

Objective Connect integrates with Microsoft SharePoint to enable secure sharing.

Objective Connect for SharePoint is a SharePoint Framework (SPFx) extension for SharePoint Online that enables secure, compliant collaboration on sensitive documents with external partners and stakeholders. It targets organisations in highly regulated sectors such as defence, government, and financial services that need to share controlled content with third parties while maintaining governance, auditability, and organisational control.

The solution includes an SPFx ListView Command Set that adds a custom command to the context menu of document library folders in SharePoint. When the command is selected, the extension captures the site and folder information and redirects the user to Objective Connect in a new browser tab, with the relevant SharePoint context such as site and item information. This lets users initiate external collaboration directly from SharePoint folders, launching the relevant workspace in Objective Connect in a new browser tab.

Objective Connect works alongside SharePoint, using its own APIs to support governed collaboration with external parties. Documents remain stored in SharePoint and are accessed in real time, without being copied or synchronised. Participants can view and download documents from Objective Connect, but all edits must be made directly in SharePoint, which maintains the version history. Internal users continue to be governed by SharePoint permissions, while Objective Connect manages workspace‑level access for external participants.

The integration supports folders within SharePoint sites, not entire document libraries, ensuring that collaboration is scoped to specific project areas. Actions performed in Objective Connect are captured in the workspace audit trail, enabling organisations to meet compliance and regulatory requirements. This helps teams resolve common challenges such as uncontrolled sharing, poor auditability, and inconsistent governance when working with external stakeholders.

Key customer benefits include:

Secure, controlled sharing of sensitive documents with external partners, while keeping SharePoint as the single source of truth.

Clear separation of internal and external access, with Objective Connect managing external workspace permissions independently of SharePoint.

Full auditability of collaboration activities, supporting compliance and demonstrating control over document sharing.

To use the solution, organisations must first configure Objective Connect for SharePoint through their IT team. Users need an Objective Connect account linked to the same email address as their Microsoft 365 account and must be members of the Objective Connect workgroup associated with this configuration.
