Timeplus Proton is a single binary streaming SQL engine derived from ClickHouse. It ingests events into append only streams and runs both streaming queries, which stay continuously up to date as new events arrive, and historical queries over the same data using familiar SQL. This cloudimg image installs Proton 3.0.26, the official self contained binary, and runs it as a single node server with the bundled proton client for local SQL.

Secure by default

Proton ships upstream with a default user that has no password. cloudimg establishes a secure by default posture before the engine is ever reachable: every Proton port is restricted to loopback by a host firewall, and on first boot a unique password is generated, hashed into the server configuration and written to a root only file, so anonymous and wrong credential connections are refused and no two instances share a login. Reach the engine locally on the VM or over an SSH tunnel.

Licensing and support

Timeplus Proton is licensed under the Apache License 2.0 and is free. The cloudimg charge of 0.04 US dollars per vCPU hour covers packaging, security patching, image maintenance and 24/7 expert support. Standard_B4ms is a good starting point.
