Unisys Student Companion applies generative AI to trusted academic content (OER textbooks). It’s powered by Unisys Intelligence Accelerator, an adaptable AI technology framework utilizing OpenAI, Azure AI Document Intelligence, and Azure AI Search to rapidly configure, train and deploy scalable AI-driven systems for meaningful academic and business outcomes.
Leveraging generative AI, Unisys Student Companion responds to questions to enhance academic OER. At its core, it provides a web application that allows students to engage with AI trained on OER textbooks. With equity at its core, the solution provides personalized learning support, virtual teaching assistance, language translation, adaptive learning support and research assistance. This versatility results in educational content tailored to each student's unique needs and learning preferences.
Students can ask simple or complex academic questions and receive precise answers based on the trusted OER content, while faculty can enhance their academic teaching and tutoring. Librarians facilitate the vetting and management of OER content, making it a comprehensive tool for both students and educators.
Unisys Student Companion provides a multi-lingual, multi-modal Gen AI interface for students and faculty to securely and responsibly access OER textbook content.
It is trained on vast amounts of academic OER textbooks, including mathematics, computer science, chemistry, psychology and government/political science.
The Unisys Student Companion is managed by Unisys in an Azure tenant, with integrations to the institutions’ Microsoft Active Directory/Entra ID system to facilitate secure access by students, faculty, and librarians.
The Unisys Student Companion can be offered as a pilot solution to universities and colleges. The pilot is provided for up to 10 courses per semester (and up to 1,000 students). In the pilot phase, the LLM training is on textbooks in 5 academic disciplines: Mathematics, Computer Science, Chemistry, Psychology, and Political Science/US Government.
