Apache Zeppelin is the open source, web based notebook that brings interactive data analytics and collaborative documents to your browser. It runs paragraphs of code against pluggable interpreters and renders the results as tables and charts inline, so data engineers and analysts can explore data, build visualisations and share reproducible notebooks. The cloudimg image installs Apache Zeppelin 0.12.1 on OpenJDK 11 at /opt/zeppelin, runs it as a dedicated zeppelin system user, fronts the notebook UI with an nginx reverse proxy on port 80, enables Apache Shiro authentication, keeps notebooks and configuration on a dedicated Azure data disk, and generates a unique admin password on the first boot of every VM. Bundled Interpreters

The full bin all distribution ships the Spark, JDBC, Python, shell, markdown and many other interpreters out of the box, so you can query databases, run Spark jobs and script in Python from the same notebook without installing extra packages.

Dedicated Data Disk

Notebooks, interpreter state and configuration live on a dedicated, independently resizable Azure data disk mounted at /var/lib/zeppelin, separate from the OS disk and re-provisioned with every VM. Snapshot it to back up your saved notebooks.

Secure By Default

Apache Shiro authentication is enabled and anonymous access is disabled, so the notebook UI is locked behind a login. The admin password is unique per VM and stored in a root only file, regenerated on the first boot of every VM. The notebook server binds to loopback and nginx fronts it so only port 80 is exposed; front it with TLS for production.
