Open WebUI on Ubuntu 24.04 LTS
Open WebUI is a popular open source, self-hosted AI chat interface: a feature-rich web front end for large language models that fronts a local Ollama backend and any OpenAI-compatible API. This image delivers it fully installed, hardened and reverse-proxied behind nginx so your private AI workspace is operational within minutes of launch, with no manual container wiring, no dependency troubleshooting and no WebSocket proxy configuration required.
Unlike a bare deployment, this image ships with a bundled local Ollama so it works standalone out of the box, an nginx reverse proxy pre-configured for WebSocket traffic and ready for your TLS certificate, loopback-only application binding so neither the web app nor the model backend listens on a public interface directly, and no default credentials: the image boots to the first-run sign-up screen so you create your own administrator on first visit. No shared passwords or pre-seeded database rows exist in the image. The stack refreshes itself to the newest Open WebUI release on first boot, so every launch runs current software rather than a version frozen at build time. Docker and systemd manage the services for automatic restarts and clean logging, and 24/7 cloudimg support is included.
Capabilities include multi-model chat with local Ollama models and OpenAI-compatible providers, retrieval augmented generation over your own documents, model and prompt management, multi-user workspaces with role based access control, and a responsive interface that runs comfortably on CPU and accelerates on an optional GPU VM.
