FAQ

• How do I open KML files without Google Earth? Install Map Viewer 365 for SharePoint from Microsoft AppSource, select the .kml file in your SharePoint document library, and click View KML. The map opens right in SharePoint.
• Can SharePoint preview KML and KMZ files? SharePoint has no built-in KML preview. Map Viewer 365 adds one: select the file, click View KML, and the map opens right in SharePoint.
• What is the difference between KML and KMZ? A KMZ is a zipped KML, often with bundled images. Map Viewer 365 opens both, including images packed inside the archive.
• Can I save the map as an image or PDF? Yes. Click Export in the viewer toolbar and choose PNG, JPG, or PDF.
• Does Map Viewer 365 work with other map formats? The viewer currently specializes in .kml and .kmz files, but our architecture is built to expand. We are actively tracking demand to prioritize upcoming support for:

  • Vector and GIS: GeoJSON (.geojson), GPX (.gpx), Shapefiles (.zip), and GeoPackage (.gpkg).
