BENE.BIZ Docus
by Alexander Rezun
A modern document workspace for SharePoint and Teams. Write, embed, review, approve and more.
BENE.BIZ Docus is a Markdown-based document workspace that runs inside SharePoint Online and Microsoft Teams. Teams write documentation, plans and knowledge-base pages in a modern block editor, embed the Office files they already have, review with comments and approvals, and keep full version history. Every page is an ordinary .md file in your own SharePoint library. There is no external backend and no content ever leaves your tenant.
Why teams choose Docus
- Knowledge scattered across tools: one workspace per site or team, opened from SharePoint or Teams, always showing the same documents.
- Office files locked away in folders: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio, PDF and email files render inline in the page, next to the text that explains them.
- Reviews lost in email: line-anchored comments, @mentions and group-based approval workflows live on the document itself.
- Compliance and data residency: content stays in SharePoint under the permissions you already manage. Access is simply site or team membership.
Key features
- Markdown editor with edit, split, preview and raw modes, slash commands and drag-and-drop uploads
- Inline embeds of Office documents, PDFs, emails, websites, maps and videos
- Mermaid diagrams and an Excalidraw whiteboard canvas
- Comments, @mentions and approvals with reviewer groups and a derived document status
- Microsoft Planner tasks, Teams meetings and Outlook events directly in a page
- Docus Copilot: ask Microsoft 365 Copilot about your own documents, using your existing Copilot licences
- Full-text search, tags, bookmarks, version history, check-out and restore
- Interface in ten languages: English, German, French, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese, Russian, Ukrainian, Simplified Chinese and Arabic. Light and dark themes, tenant-wide feature governance
Component information
This SharePoint Framework (SPFx) package contains the following components. All of them open the same workspace of the site or team they are added to. Docus is not available as a Teams personal app.
| Component | Where it appears |
| Web part (BENE.BIZ Docus) | Any modern SharePoint page, expandable to full screen |
| Application customizer | The full-page workspace on the site's Docus page (page template under "Full-page apps") |
| Microsoft Teams channel tab | Added to a team channel; opens the workspace of the team's SharePoint site |
Prerequisites and account dependency
In order to use this app, you need to have an active BENE.BIZ Docus subscription with a licence assigned to each user. Subscriptions are purchased through the Microsoft Commercial Marketplace and licences are assigned in the Microsoft 365 admin center. Users without a licence see a subscription notice instead of the workspace.
| Requirement | Detail |
| Microsoft 365 | A subscription with SharePoint Online and a tenant App Catalog |
| Administrator | A SharePoint Administrator deploys the package and approves the requested API permissions under API access |
| Required permissions | BENE.BIZ Docus / user_impersonation for licence validation (Docus does not start without it) and the core Microsoft Graph permissions Sites.Read.All, Files.ReadWrite.All, User.ReadWrite and People.Read.All, used for documents, people pickers, @mentions, search and user settings |
| Optional permissions | The remaining Graph permissions enable optional features only: Planner tasks, meetings and events, meeting transcripts, approval notifications and Copilot. Declining them disables just those features |
| Docus Copilot | Additionally requires a Microsoft 365 Copilot licence per user (not included) |
| Network | Browsers must be able to reach the BENE.BIZ licence service (bene-biz.com). Content is separate per site or team and is not shared between workspaces |
Pricing
