Trino (formerly PrestoSQL) is a fast, distributed SQL query engine for big-data analytics. It federates queries across the data sources where your data lives, so you can run interactive SQL over object storage, relational databases, NoSQL stores and streaming systems without first copying everything into a warehouse. This cloudimg image packages Trino 476 (Apache-2.0) as a ready-to-run single-node appliance (coordinator + worker on one node) on a Temurin 24 JRE, behind an nginx reverse proxy on port 80 with HTTP Basic auth, with a built-in tpch sample catalog and a per-VM password generated on first boot. Backed by 24/7 expert support.

Federated SQL Analytics

Run interactive SQL over many data sources where the data lives - object storage, relational databases, NoSQL and more - without copying it into a warehouse. A built-in tpch catalog ships so you can query real sample data immediately (SELECT count(*) FROM tpch.tiny.nation returns 25).

Dedicated Data Disk

Trino's data directory and spill live on a dedicated, independently resizable Azure data disk at /var/lib/trino, separate from the OS disk and re-provisioned with every VM.

Secured By nginx

The Trino Web UI and REST API are fronted by nginx on port 80 with HTTP Basic auth and a unique password generated on the first boot of every VM, stored in a root-only credentials file.

Why Choose cloudimg?

  • 24/7 Expert Support with guaranteed 24 hour response. Contact support@cloudimg.co.uk
  • Production Ready from Launch Pre configured, security patched, and validated before publication
  • Azure Native Integration Built with Azure Linux Agent, cloud init, and Gen2 Hyper V

What is Included

  • Trino 476 (single-node coordinator + worker) at /opt/trino on a Temurin 24 JRE
  • The Trino Web UI and REST API behind nginx on port 80 with HTTP Basic auth
  • The Trino CLI at /opt/trino/bin/trino
  • A built-in tpch catalog for instant sample queries
  • A dedicated Azure data disk at /var/lib/trino for the data directory and spill
  • A unique per-VM password generated on first boot in a root-only file
  • trino.service and nginx.service as enabled, active systemd units

Getting Started

Deploy on a Standard_B4ms (4 vCPU / 16 GiB) to start, retrieve the per-VM password from /root/trino-credentials.txt, then sign in to the Web UI at http://your-vm-ip/ui/ as admin or run queries with the Trino CLI. Connect BI tools (DBeaver, Superset, Tableau, Power BI, Metabase) through the official Trino JDBC/ODBC driver, and add your own catalogs under /opt/trino/etc/catalog/. Trino serves plain HTTP on port 80 - terminate TLS in front of nginx for production.

Use Cases

Federated SQL analytics across data sources, a query engine over data lakes and object storage, interactive BI over many databases, and a self-hosted distributed SQL engine.
