openEuler 24.03 LTS | Support by cloudimg

OpenAtom Foundation server OS in the RHEL lineage, hardened and fully patched.
openEuler 24.03 LTS is a production image of openEuler 24.03 LTS (at the 24.03-LTS-SP4 maintenance level), the community server operating system incubated and operated by the OpenAtom Foundation. It is an enterprise-grade, RHEL/CentOS-lineage distribution: it uses RPM packages and the dnf package manager (DNF4) with a familiar Red Hat-style layout, on a 6.6 kernel. 24.03 is a Long-Term Support release; this image is brought fully up to date against the official openEuler 24.03-LTS-SP4 repositories at build time, and an automated gate blocks capture if any update remains outstanding. dnf-automatic is armed so the machine keeps applying updates unattended.
It ships with no known credential: the root password is locked, password authentication is disabled, root SSH login is set to prohibit-password, and no authorized_keys are baked in, so access is only ever by the SSH key you supply when you create the VM. openEuler's OpenSSH honours the sshd_config.d include directory, so the hardening ships as a first-read drop-in and in the main config. The machine identity and SSH host keys are regenerated per instance, so two VMs launched from this image are cryptographically distinct. The unused rpcbind listener on port 111 is disabled, no swap is baked into the image, and the only externally reachable listener is SSH on port 22.
Azure provisioning is handled by the Azure Linux Agent (WALinuxAgent 2.10), not cloud-init. The upstream openEuler generic-cloud image ships no cloud-init, so this image uses waagent to create the admin user, inject your SSH key and regenerate a per-VM SSH host key at first boot. Gen1 (BIOS) Hyper-V; a serial console is enabled for out-of-band recovery. SELinux is not enforced in this image - the openEuler generic-cloud image ships without a SELinux targeted policy, and cloudimg ships that upstream default rather than force-enabling SELinux on the imported image; install selinux-policy-targeted and relabel if your workload requires it.
Licensing - free and open source. openEuler's own components are licensed under the Mulan Permissive Software License v2 (Mulan PSL v2), and the distribution is a collection of thousands of independently licensed upstream packages (GPL, LGPL, MIT, BSD, Apache-2.0, MPL and more). No subscription, no licence key and no support contract is required. The cloudimg charge ($0.04 per vCPU/hour) covers packaging, image maintenance and 24/7 expert support. cloudimg is not affiliated with or endorsed by the OpenAtom Foundation or the openEuler community; "openEuler" is used nominatively to identify the operating system this image contains.
Recommended: Standard_B2s or larger (a Gen1-capable size). Target: general-purpose Linux server workloads, teams standardising on openEuler, and RHEL/CentOS-lineage workloads that want an LTS community base. Prerequisites: Azure subscription, VNet, SSH key; the NSG should permit port 22 from your management network.
