Lunar on Ubuntu 24.04 LTS

by cloudimg

Open source headless commerce for Laravel, storefront and admin ready on first boot

Lunar is a modern, open source headless ecommerce package for the Laravel framework. It brings a clean commerce domain model - catalog, products, collections, pricing, orders, customers, tax and shipping - together with an admin panel and an API, so you build and run a store on a foundation you fully control. This cloudimg image deploys the official Lunar storefront example, pairing a customer facing Livewire storefront with the Lunar admin panel so you land on a working shop and a working sign in the moment the VM boots.

The image runs Lunar 1.3.0 on Ubuntu 24.04 LTS as a Laravel application on PHP 8.3 with OPcache, served by nginx over HTTPS with php-fpm and backed by MariaDB, all from the Ubuntu distribution with no third party package repositories. Migrations, a demo catalog and the compiled storefront assets are already in place, so there is no setup wizard to complete. The base is security patched and kept current by unattended upgrades.

Secure by default: no working credential is baked into the image. Before the web port ever opens, first boot generates a fresh Laravel application key, a fresh MariaDB password and a fresh administrator email and password unique to that virtual machine, written to a root only file, and generates a per VM self signed TLS certificate so the admin panel loads over a secure context. The well known starter default admin@lunarphp.io with the password 'password' is neutralised at build time and does not authenticate. Plain HTTP is redirected to HTTPS.

Use it to run a self hosted online store, to build a headless commerce backend behind your own front end, or anywhere a Laravel native commerce platform should live inside your own cloud account rather than a hosted service. The paired deployment guide covers launching the VM, retrieving the per VM administrator credentials, signing in to the storefront and the Lunar admin panel over HTTPS, managing the catalog, and moving to your own domain certificate.

Lunar is distributed under the MIT license, free and open source with no per seat or per deployment fee. This image ships the 1.3.0 release deployed via the official Lunar starter kit, unmodified. cloudimg is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Lunar; Lunar is a mark of its owner. cloudimg provides packaging, the secure by default first boot posture with a unique administrator and per VM secrets, security patching, and 24/7 support with a guaranteed 24 hour response SLA.
