Apache Directory Server (ApacheDS) is a modern, embeddable LDAP v3 directory server that also supports Kerberos and is fully standards-compliant. This image is built and maintained by cloudimg on a hardened, fully patched Ubuntu 24.04 LTS base.

### What's included

• ApacheDS on OpenJDK 17, managed by systemd, serving LDAP on port 10389 (loopback-bound)
• A pre-seeded demo partition (`dc=cloudimg,dc=local`) with sample entries
• A unique administrator password generated on first boot (no shared default credential)
• The directory partitions and working data on a dedicated managed data disk
• Automatic security updates enabled

### Getting started

Retrieve the generated password with `sudo cat /root/apacheds-credentials.txt`, then query the directory: `ldapsearch -x -H ldap://127.0.0.1:10389 -D 'uid=admin,ou=system' -w <password> -b 'dc=cloudimg,dc=local' '(objectclass=*)'`.
