Checkmk Raw 2.4 on Ubuntu 24.04 LTS is a ready-to-run IT infrastructure monitoring server, pre-installed and configured on a hardened Ubuntu 24.04 LTS (Noble Numbat) base image. It delivers the Checkmk Raw Edition, the free and open-source edition of Checkmk licensed under the GNU GPLv2, so teams can stand up comprehensive monitoring of servers, networks, applications, and cloud resources within minutes of deployment.

What's included

Each release bundles the current Checkmk Raw Edition 2.4 patch level, the OMD (Open Monitoring Distribution) site management runtime, the Apache web front end, and the Checkmk monitoring agent. The exact patch version is pinned and SHA-256 verified at build time for reproducibility. The image ships with Trusted Launch support, with Secure Boot and vTPM available at deployment, and receives operating-system security patches applied at build time.

First-boot automation

On first boot, an automated setup service creates a monitoring site named main and generates a unique administrator password for that specific virtual machine. Every deployment receives its own credentials; none are shared or baked into the image. The Checkmk web interface is reachable as soon as the virtual machine finishes provisioning.

Monitoring capabilities

Checkmk Raw provides agent-based and agentless monitoring, automatic service discovery, threshold and event-based alerting, performance graphing with historical metrics, and a rule-based configuration model. It monitors Linux and Windows hosts, network devices over SNMP, databases, containers, and public cloud services through a large catalog of built-in check plugins.
