E5 Adoption for Microsoft 365: Secure AI Productivity from Licensing You Already Own

par Simplicity IT Inc.

Save 29% of security tooling spend by deploying the E5 capabilities you already pay for.

Built for the IT Director or CFO who is paying the E5 premium over E3 and using almost none of what the difference buys, while separately paying third-party vendors for capabilities already included. This engagement will eliminate duplicate third-party security spend and improve the return on E5 licensing already purchased.

Who this is for

Organizations that moved to Microsoft 365 E5, usually on a security argument during a renewal, and never operationalized the difference. The IT Director knows which capabilities are dark. The CFO is the more motivated buyer, because the same organization is typically still paying separate vendors for endpoint protection, data loss prevention, MFA, or business intelligence, all of which are already inside the E5 they bought.

What we deliver

  • A license gap review mapping every E5 capability against what is deployed, what is partially deployed, and what is dark, cross-referenced with your current third-party security and productivity contracts and their renewal dates.
  • A sequenced deployment plan ordered by contract renewal rather than by technical convenience, so each capability is live and proven before the third-party contract it displaces comes up for renewal.
  • Deployment of the prioritized capabilities, typically Defender for Endpoint and Office 365, Purview DLP and sensitivity labels, Entra ID P2 with Privileged Identity Management and risk-based conditional access, and Power BI Pro where a separate BI tool exists.
  • A benefits realization report per capability, showing the deployment is genuinely at parity with what it replaces before you cancel anything, so the saving is taken on evidence, not on a slide.

Outcomes our customers see

A 1,800-seat customer retired 3 third-party contracts, reducing annual security tooling spend by 29 percent while improving measured endpoint coverage. One organization found 7 of 11 E5 security capabilities completely undeployed 790 days after purchase, having spent roughly $410,000 on the E5 premium over that period. Sequencing deployment against contract renewal dates avoided 420 days of double-running cost across 900 seats.

How this compares

The standard E5 adoption engagement deploys capabilities in technical order and hands over. The saving never materializes because the third-party contract auto-renewed six weeks earlier. Sequencing against renewal dates is the entire difference, and it requires the commercial contract review most technical partners do not do. The benefits realization step also matters: we prove parity before you cancel, because a security gap created by a canceled contract is a far worse outcome than a delayed saving.

Architecture and Microsoft alignment

Deployment covers the Microsoft 365 E5 estate: Microsoft Defender for Endpoint, Defender for Office 365, and Defender for Cloud Apps for threat protection; Microsoft Purview for sensitivity labels, DLP, insider risk, and eDiscovery; Microsoft Entra ID P2 for Privileged Identity Management, identity protection, and access reviews; and Power BI Pro. Signals consolidate into Microsoft Defender XDR and, where present, Microsoft Sentinel. Configuration is deployed as code where the service supports it so the estate is reproducible. Aligned to the Microsoft solution plays Secure AI Productivity and Data Security.

Plans

Plans, prices, and full scope per plan are on the Plans tab of this listing.

Prerequisites

Microsoft 365 E5 licensing already in place, or E3 with the E5 Security and Compliance add-ons. Global Administrator consent, visibility of current third-party security and productivity contracts including renewal dates, and a commercial stakeholder able to make the cancellation decisions when parity is demonstrated.

Limitations

This engagement deploys Microsoft capability and evidences parity. It does not negotiate or terminate your third-party contracts, which remains your commercial decision. Where a third-party product genuinely exceeds the Microsoft capability for your use case, the report will say so rather than recommend a downgrade. Power Platform, Viva, and Microsoft 365 Copilot are licensed separately from E5 and are not in scope. Microsoft 365 E7 includes everything in E5 plus Copilot, the full Entra Suite, and Agent 365; if you are already on E7 or upgrading to it, the E7 adoption engagement is the right scope.
