SQL Spreads

SQL Spreads is an Excel add-in that lets business users update SQL Server tables directly from Excel. An IT or data person sets up the table once. Business users then edit, insert and delete rows in a normal Excel sheet and write the changes back to SQL Server, with no SQL and no custom application.

More than 1,000 customers in over 50 countries use it for master data, forecasts, budgets, price lists and other data that lives in SQL Server but is maintained by people who work in Excel.

You decide who can change what

• Designer and Data Editor roles. A Designer chooses the table and the rules. A Data Editor can only change the data, never the setup or the table structure.
• Lock what should not move. Hide columns, make columns read-only, switch off insert or delete per table, and restrict a column to a drop-down list of valid values.
• Validation as you type. Every entry is checked against the SQL Server data type, so an invalid value never reaches the database.
• Change tracking. Record who created or changed each row, and when.
• Conflict detection. Warns a user if someone else changed a row in the database after they loaded it.

• Master data management without a dedicated MDM platform, including teams replacing Microsoft Master Data Services (MDS), which was removed in SQL Server 2025
• Financial forecasting and budgeting in Excel, stored in SQL Server
• Importing and bulk updating data in SQL Server tables from Excel
• An Excel front end for SQL Server in place of a custom web app or Power Apps form

Security and deployment

SQL Spreads runs on the user's desktop and works directly with your own SQL Server or Azure SQL databases. Your data is never stored outside your own infrastructure. It uses Windows, SQL Server and Microsoft Entra ID authentication, including MFA, and has been independently penetration tested.

• Windows 10 or 11 with desktop Excel, from Excel 2010 to Microsoft 365
