Credentials That Last Forever
Perpetual is a blockchain-based credentialing platform built for institutions whose credentials need to outlive the platform that issued them. Every credential is signed, anchored on Ethereum — the most credibly neutral public blockchain in existence — and stored permanently on a decentralised network. Verifiable on any open BlockCerts tool, even without Perpetual in the trust chain.
Three guarantees, every credential, every time
Permanent. The signed credential and the rendered PDF are stored on Arweave — a decentralised network designed for permanent archival. Paid for once at issuance, kept accessible for 200+ years. No recurring storage fees. No deletion risk.
Portable. Built on open standards — BlockCerts v3, W3C Verifiable Credentials 2.0, MerkleProof2019, and DID:web. Recipients receive a signed file they actually own, verifiable on multiple independent tools including the public BlockCerts verifier.
Provable. Anchored on Ethereum — the most credibly neutral public blockchain in existence. Every credential carries a cryptographic Merkle proof that anyone can verify against the chain — forever. Perpetual doesn't run the chain. Perpetual isn't in the verification path.
Why Ethereum, and only Ethereum
Ethereum has the largest validator set, the longest continuous uptime, the most diverse governance, and the deepest economic security of any general-purpose public blockchain. It is the chain that other chains anchor to. Choosing Ethereum — and only Ethereum — isn't a limitation; it's a deliberate refusal to fragment our customers' credentials across networks of varying trust. When the credential a recipient earned in 2026 needs to verify in 2056, the chain it lives on still has to exist.
Why this matters
Most platforms that claim to be blockchain-backed record only a hash of the certificate on a public chain. The actual credential — the signed file, the rendered PDF, the issuer's profile — lives in the vendor's own database. When that database goes away, the on-chain hash becomes a number with nothing on the other end of it.
Perpetual stores the whole thing on infrastructure no one can take down — including us. If Perpetual shut down tomorrow, every credential ever issued would still verify on any standards-compliant tool, indefinitely.
