SmartVisuals AI Chatbot brings conversational AI into your Power BI reports. Ask a question about your data in plain English or your own language and get an answer, a chart or a working DAX formula in seconds. AI is included: get a free license key, paste it into the visual and start chatting - no AI account, no API key, no setup.

New in 1.1: answers you can check

• "How I got this" under every answer (free) - the fields, filters, periods and grouping actually used and how many rows went in, plus "Show rows" to see them. The visual calculates the numbers on your data; the AI does not guess them.
• Like-for-like comparisons - "Jan-Aug 2026 vs 2025" compares the same months in both years and flags a period that is only partly covered.
• Export from charts (Professional) - copy a chart as an image, copy the data behind it, or export it to CSV through the Power BI download (where your tenant allows downloads).
• Starter questions and follow-ups built from your real field names.

Current AI models

SmartVisuals AI is included and is the default. Prefer your own AI account? Bring your own key (BYOK) and pick the model: Anthropic Claude Haiku 5.5, Sonnet 5.5, Opus 5.5 and Fable 5.1; OpenAI GPT-6 Luna, Sol and Astra; Google Gemini 3.5 Flash-Lite, 3.8 Flash and 3.1 Pro; xAI Grok 4.3 and 4.7; or your own Azure OpenAI deployment. Answers stream as they are written.

Accessibility

Keyboard operable: Tab moves between the message box, send button, menu and chart menus; Enter sends, Shift+Enter adds a line, arrow keys move in menus and Escape closes them. The conversation is a live region for screen readers, icon buttons are labelled, Power BI high-contrast mode is honored, and animations are off by default and follow the reduced-motion setting.

Languages

Chat interface, Instant Insights and answers in English, German, French, Spanish and Czech; the AI answers in the language of the question or a chosen chat language. The format pane is in English.

Plans

Free to download. AI chat needs a license key; the Free plan key is free at smartvisuals.io. Free: Instant Insights, AI chat with a monthly message limit, answer provenance and every theme. Starter adds the DAX Assistant. Professional adds charts and export, two-dimension breakdowns, Insight Discovery and PDF export. Enterprise adds more saved conversations and priority support. Additional purchase may be required.

Privacy and data

This visual uses an external AI service and is not certified by Microsoft. With the included AI, your question, column names, sample values and the results the visual computed are sent through SmartVisuals servers to the AI provider, used only to answer and never for model training. With BYOK, OpenAI, xAI and Azure OpenAI are called directly from your browser; Anthropic and Google go through a non-storing relay. Your API key is never stored on SmartVisuals servers. Cloud conversation history is off by default. All endpoints are declared in the visual's WebAccess privileges; licensing is validated on the server.
