VPN Server with Web Admin Panel on Ubuntu 24.04 LTS by ProvenCloud
by ProvenCloud
VPN server on Azure: WireGuard-protocol VPN with a simple web admin panel.
VPN server on Azure, ready in minutes.
This image is your own VPN server using the fast, modern WireGuard protocol, with the wg-easy web admin panel. Create a user in the browser and it gives you a QR code for the phone app and a config file for laptops. Your traffic leaves the internet from your Azure VM's address, and nobody else holds the keys.
Why teams choose this image
- Simple to manage: add, pause and remove VPN users from a web page, with no command line needed.
- Fast and modern: the WireGuard protocol is quick to connect and light on battery, on Windows, macOS, Linux, Android and iOS.
- Tested with a real client: a tunnel is connected and its traffic checked before the image is released.
- Your own keys: every VM creates its own server keys, admin password and HTTPS certificate on first boot.
What is included
- WireGuard-protocol VPN on UDP port 51820
- wg-easy 15.5.0 web admin panel behind nginx with HTTPS
- Webmin 2.670 for server administration
- Ubuntu 24.04 LTS, fully patched
Getting started
Open https://<vm-public-ip>/ and sign in as admin. The password is your VM ID (Azure portal > the virtual machine > Properties > VM ID, for example 02aab8a4-74ef-476e-8182-f6d2ba4166a6). Add a client, then scan its QR code with the WireGuard app or download its config file. Webmin (port 8000, user admin) uses the same password.
Ports opened for you: SSH 22 and 80, 443, UDP 51820 and 8000. For production, limit admin ports to your own IP address. Step-by-step guide: provencloud.io/catalog/azure-vpn-server-web-admin-ubuntu-24-04
Who it is for
Remote teams, small businesses, travellers and developers who want a private VPN with a fixed exit IP address in the Azure region of their choice.
