A split-flap departure board for your data: real flip animation, status lamps, auto-paging. Free.

The departure board your data already has. Bind a table and it flips in, character by character, like the split-flap board in a 1970s station. Then it pages itself on the wall screen, lights a lamp beside every status and, when the data refreshes, flips only the characters that changed.

Real split-flap mechanics

  • Every character sits on its own drum that only turns forward, so a change walks through the characters in between and the board settles in a cascade: sweep, curtain, row by row, scattered or all at once, at the speed you choose.
  • Only what changed flips. A data refresh turns just the characters that moved; resizing or switching the theme never re-flips the board.
  • Digit drums for times and numbers, and accented letters (Č, Ř, Ö, Ł, É and more) added right next to their letter when your data uses them.
  • Write {green}, {red} or {yellow} in the text for a solid colour flap.

Your data, in columns

  • Time, destination or item, up to six detail columns, up to six number columns and a status column, each bound to a field. Numbers are never cut short. Every column has its heading, width, alignment and visibility in the format pane, listed by the field's own name.
  • Status words become On track, Watch, Problem or Done from word lists you can edit, with English, Czech, German, French, Spanish and Polish built in. The word stays on the board and each class lights a lamp of its own shape, so status never depends on colour alone.
  • Or let a measure drive the status: a DAX measure that returns text such as Delayed, or a code. Codes, ranges and thresholds (1, 5 to 15, or a comparison such as greater than 30) map to the four classes and print as your own labels, so a board follows your business rules without a calculated column.
  • Three layouts: a departure board, a message board that word-wraps one message per page, and KPI tiles with a big value. A plain table style shows the same data calmly for the boardroom.

Made for wall screens

  • Long lists page themselves, with a page indicator and progress bar, and keep paging through automatic page refresh. Hovering or pressing P pauses (a mouse left resting on a wall screen stops pausing after 20 seconds); Page Up and Page Down turn the page.
  • A live clock and date in the header, in the viewer's time zone, UTC or a city of your choice (London to Los Angeles, daylight saving included), 24 or 12 hour.
  • Sharp on a 4K screen, readable on a small report tile, and an optional one-pixel drift that protects OLED screens from burn-in.
  • Four themes with their own character: a teal terminal, the classic black airport board, a gallery white board and a blue station board. Every colour of the board, flaps, lamps and labels can be changed (colour flaps keep their named colour), and shadows and the title rule switched off.

Built for real reports

  • Rows cross-filter the report: click, Ctrl+click for several, right-click for the standard menu. When a measure is bound, highlights from other visuals dim the rows they leave out. Tooltips show every field of the row, formatted as on the board, on touch screens too.
  • Accessible: one keyboard tab stop with arrow keys, a screen-reader table of the current page, Windows high contrast, and instant changes for viewers who ask their system for reduced motion. Colours pass WCAG contrast on every theme.
  • Exports to PDF and PowerPoint and email subscriptions capture the board after the flaps have landed.

Free and private

  • Completely free: no paid tier, no watermark, nothing locked.
  • Runs fully offline: no external calls, no telemetry, the flap font is built in. The manifest declares no privileges. Sound-free by design, so it is welcome in an open office.

SmartVisuals builds Power BI visuals with one promise: the visual never blocks your report. Questions or ideas: hello@smartvisuals.io - we read every message.
