Bind Employee ID, Manager ID and Name. That is the whole setup.

SmartVisuals Org Chart derives the reporting tree from the ids in the table your HR system already exports. No PATH and PATHITEM measures, no parent-child hierarchy, no calculated column per level, no static root row invented to keep a visual happy.

IT DOES NOT BREAK

The org chart shelf is full of error screens: two or more root nodes, the top person must have ID 1, a blank visual the moment a slicer removes the CEO. This one renders anyway and explains what it did, in a strip under the chart. All of this is free, in every tier:

• Several people at the top stand side by side. There is no single-root rule.
• A manager id that is not in the table is not an error: those people are grouped under Unassigned and counted, or promoted to their own tree if you prefer.
• A reporting loop is cut at one link, everybody stays visible, and the cut is named.
• Duplicate ids, blank ids, self-managed rows and dotted lines pointing at someone who left are each handled and counted.
• A slicer that filters away the top of the organisation gives you a filtered view, not an error.

THE WHOLE CHART IS FREE

• Any id type, any size of organisation, no node cap.
• Expand and collapse that survives a refresh, a bookmark and a reopen, because the state lives in the report, not in browser storage.
• Branch view: any person becomes the root, the path back to the top folds into a breadcrumb, and a slicer selection can open it for you.
• Photos from a data URI column with initials as the fallback, job title, department, and up to three extra lines per card.
• Dotted-line managers as a second, curved connector.
• Top-down and left-to-right layouts, wide teams folded behind a plus-n chip or stacked as a list, pan, zoom, fit and a mini map.
• Search, cross-filtering both ways, tooltips, the standard right-click menu, four themes, and colour by any column.

BUILT FOR REPORTS, NOT DEMOS

Click a card and the rest of the report filters to that person and their whole team. Full keyboard navigation: the chart is a single tab stop and the arrow keys walk the tree, up to the manager, down to the first report, sideways between colleagues. Screen-reader tree semantics, high contrast, and no animation for anyone who asked for none. English and Czech. No external calls of any kind.

PREMIUM: THE ANALYTICS LAYER

The free tier draws the organisation. Premium answers questions about it.

• Roll-ups through the tree: total headcount under every manager, and any measure you bind - FTE, cost, budget, open requisitions - summed, averaged or min and max, in the model's own format.
• Span of control: direct reports per manager against thresholds you set, cards coloured by band, and the managers who are carrying too many people or only one.
• Open positions as their own cards, counted into every total above them.
• An insights strip that names what is worth looking at: the over-span managers, the deepest chain, the largest team, where the vacancies sit.
• Snapshot comparison: bind two dates and the chart marks joiners, leavers as ghost cards under their old manager, moves and new titles, with a change summary.
