Nextcloud File Sharing and Sync on Ubuntu 24.04 LTS by ProvenCloud
by ProvenCloud
Nextcloud on Azure: private file sharing, sync and collaboration.
Nextcloud on Azure, ready in minutes. Deploy the virtual machine, open its public IP address in a browser and you are ready to go. There is no installer to run and nothing to configure.
Nextcloud is a popular open source platform for file storage, sync and sharing. It gives your team a private alternative to public file-sharing services: files, photos, calendars and contacts stay on a server you control, and people reach them from a browser, the desktop sync apps for Windows, macOS and Linux, or the mobile apps for Android and iOS. This image gives businesses, schools, colleges and IT teams a working Nextcloud server in minutes, with no installer to run and no database to create.
Why teams choose this image
- Your files on your own server: sync with the Nextcloud desktop and mobile apps, share links with passwords and expiry dates, and add calendars, contacts and office apps from the Nextcloud app store.
- No shared default password: every VM sets its own passwords from its own VM ID on first boot, so no two customers share a login.
- Up to date: every component is on its latest stable release and the image carries all Ubuntu 24.04 LTS security updates, with nothing pending.
- Supports Trusted Launch with Secure Boot and vTPM. No build-time SSH keys or shell history are left in the image.
What is included
- Nextcloud 35.0.2
- Apache with PHP 8.3
- MySQL 8.0 tuned for Nextcloud
- Background jobs on system cron
- CalDAV and CardDAV discovery already set up
- phpMyAdmin and Webmin 2.670
- Ubuntu 24.04 LTS, fully patched
Getting started
Open http://<vm-public-ip>/nextcloud and sign in as admin with your VM ID (Azure portal > the virtual machine > Properties > VM ID). Desktop and mobile sync apps connect to the same address. phpMyAdmin (/phpmyadmin, user root) and Webmin (port 8000, user admin) use the same password.
Ports opened for you: SSH 22 and 80, 8000. For production, limit admin ports to your own IP address and add your domain with an SSL certificate. Step-by-step guide: provencloud.io/catalog/azure-nextcloud-ubuntu-24-04
