ScholarVera InForm
by ScholarVera
An APA 7 and citation checker for Word that verifies sources against the scholarly record.
InForm is a Microsoft Word add-in that gets APA 7 right and verifies the sources behind it. It checks the formatting and citations in a paper, confirms that each cited work actually exists in the scholarly record, and shows exactly what to fix, without changing a word of the writing.
Most checkers stop at whether a reference looks correct. InForm goes further and asks whether the source is really there: it resolves DOIs, matches works against scholarly databases, and flags anything that has been retracted or corrected.
How it works:
1. Open a paper in Word, then open InForm from the Home tab.
2. Click Check. InForm reviews the APA 7 formatting, matches in-text citations to the reference list, and verifies each cited source.
3. Work through the findings. Each one explains the rule behind it, and selected findings can be added to the document as comments or exported as a clean feedback list.
What InForm checks:
- APA 7 formatting: fonts, spacing, margins, page numbers, headings, block quotations, statistics, and the reference list.
- Citations and references: whether every in-text citation has a matching entry, and every entry is cited.
- Sources: whether each cited work can be verified across scholarly databases, whether a DOI resolves, and whether a work has been retracted or corrected.
Teach, don't fix. InForm marks what needs attention and explains why, then leaves the change to the writer. The words on the page stay the writer's.
Privacy first. InForm runs its checks on the local machine and never uploads the document. When it verifies a source, it sends only the reference entry, never the prose.
