ChatGPT for Excel brings ChatGPT directly to where you work and plan. Ask it to build full spreadsheets, generate insights across tabs and formulas, and update sheets in real time—so projects move forward faster. ChatGPT is accessible inside Excel as an Add-in that appears as a sidebar and helps you build, edit, and understand spreadsheets using natural language.

It supports large, multi-tab workbooks with thousands of cells and references, making it useful for any team that works in spreadsheets—whether you're building a business plan, forecasting spending, or analyzing spending.

ChatGPT for Excel is available in a public beta to ChatGPT Plus, Pro, Business and Enterprise users in the U.S., Canada, and Australia. Features and performance may change as we gather feedback, and outputs can be incomplete or incorrect—always review formulas and calculations.

Access to ChatGPT for Excel requires an active Plus, Pro, Business, or Enterprise subscription.

Check the work

Verify important numbers and claims with primary sources. Responses aren’t financial, legal, or tax advice—use your judgment and consult qualified professionals as needed. ChatGPT can make mistakes - including editing or deleting content.

Data Sharing

ChatGPT for Excel respects your training data preferences. To read and update your workbooks, certain data — including your chats, attachments, and workbook content — may be shared with OpenAI and the workbook software provider. Data shared with the workbook software provider will be used in accordance with their terms and privacy policy. ChatGPT does not sync with your ChatGPT.com chat history or memories. You can download or delete your locally stored chat conversations at any time through the Add-in Settings.

During the beta period:

Separate from ChatGPT chat history: Spreadsheet chats operate independently and do not sync with ChatGPT conversations.

Memory and apps are not available.

Privacy and security

Data sharing: ChatGPT for Excel respects your ChatGPT data training preferences. Some data—including chats, attachments, and workbook content—may be shared with Microsoft and OpenAI to enable reading and updating your spreadsheets. Please refer to Microsoft's Privacy policy (Privacy policy),  (Marketplace Terms), and (Service's Agreement).

You can delete or download your data directly from the Add-In via the Settings controls.

Availability

The app is available in beta for Plus and Pro users in the U.S., Canada, and Australia only.

After installing the app, sign in with the OpenAI account associated with your Plus, Pro, Business, or Enterprise plan.
