M-Files for Team Collaboration brings governed document management into the channel where your team already works. Files shared in a Microsoft Teams channel are captured into your M-Files vault with the right metadata, and M-Files content can be opened, previewed and co-authored without switching applications. Teams remains where collaboration happens, while M-Files stays the single source of truth.
File channel content without leaving Teams
Browse everything shared in the channel from the M-Files tab and save it to your vault, either individually or in bulk. AI-assisted metadata suggestions can propose document classes and property values based on file content, helping ensure consistent classification as work happens.
Work with M-Files content in the channel
Add one or more M-Files workspaces as tabs in the channel. Search, preview, open and edit content, view and modify metadata, and co-author Office files in place. Workspace metadata is applied automatically to content you add. Files are streamed from M-Files instead of copied into Teams, preserving permissions, version history and audit trails.

Drag files directly into an M-Files workspace in the channel and store them in the vault with metadata applied.
Built for Teams
Uses your existing Microsoft 365 session with no separate sign-in. The tab follows your Teams light and dark themes and works on desktop, web and mobile.

Requirements
- An M-Files Cloud vault with Microsoft 365 Storage (SharePoint Embedded) enabled. On-premises vaults, and cloud vaults without SharePoint Embedded, cannot use this app.
- An M-Files user account. This app has no standalone functionality without one.
- No separate licence or SKU. It is included in all M-Files subscription tiers as a major version update.
- A Microsoft 365 tenant with Microsoft Teams. Your tenant policies must permit installing this app, and an administrator must consent to the Microsoft Graph permissions it requests.
- AI-assisted metadata: M-Files Metadata Agent can suggest document classes and property values based on file content. Suggestions are always reviewed and confirmed by the user before they are saved. Requires M-Files Metadata Agent in your M-Files subscription. To report inaccurate or inappropriate AI-generated content, contact support at community.m-files.com.
- Office for the web licensing is required for co-authoring.
Limitations
- Available in the Microsoft 365 commercial cloud.
- Guest and external users are not supported.
- M-Files for Team Collaboration supports Standard, Private and Shared channels. In Shared channels, the M-Files tab is available only to users from the host tenant. Users joining from external tenants are not supported and receive an in-app notification.
- Co-authoring is limited to Microsoft Office file types supported by Office for the web. Other file types are preview-only.
Getting started
M-Files for Team Collaboration requires an existing M-Files subscription and access to an M-Files vault. Your M-Files administrator provides vault access.
