HTML Content

Render HTML, SVG, Markdown and scripted content from your data in Power BI reports.
HTML Content renders HTML, SVG, and Markdown from your data model directly on the report canvas, with the broadest HTML, CSS, and SVG surface the Power BI custom-visual sandbox allows. Write columns and measures in DAX to generate dynamic content, load external resources such as images and web fonts, or render HTML and Markdown that is already stored in your model.
If you need a certified visual, for a tenant policy that blocks uncertified visuals, or export to PDF or PowerPoint, use HTML Content Secure instead. That edition implements a reduced set of tags and does not load external resources to comply with Power BI certification requirements.
Built to work the way Power BI does:
- Load external resources such as images, web fonts and embedded content.
- First-class integration with Power BI interactivity: tooltips (including report page tooltips), cross-filtering, cross-highlighting, drillthrough and context menus.
- The report theme's palette is exposed as CSS variables, so your content follows theme and high-contrast changes without hard-coded colors.
Built for the authoring experience:
- Templates wrap your rows in a shared body and row shell, so your measures only need to produce per-row markup.
- A visual-level stylesheet, which (like the body template) can be bound to a measure.
- An in-visual diagnostics dialog showing the processed HTML, captured console output, and host events, useful for debugging your own scripts. Power BI has no developer tools, so the visual brings its own.
- Render modes let you choose whether updates rebuild everything or keep unchanged rows in place.
- Reports built on earlier versions keep rendering exactly as they did.

Privacy policy: this visual is free and open source under the MIT License. Its code does not collect your data, which is accessed for display purposes only. Because this edition can load external resources and run report-author-supplied scripts, that content could contact external services; refer any concerns to the report author.
Advanced use: the visual passes your content into the DOM on your behalf. What renders depends on the browser (Power BI Desktop is not a full web browser) and on the least-privilege sandbox Power BI applies to all custom visuals, including CORS restrictions the visual cannot override. Known limitations are documented on the website.
