Aidbox FHIR Server

Autor: Health Samurai

A FHIR-native platform for healthcare applications with APIs, integration, MDM, and terminology.

FHIR server and healthcare data platform

Aidbox is a backend for teams building healthcare software on FHIR. It is used for clinical data repositories, EHR and PHR systems, patient portals, CDS and AI tools, payer platforms, and integration-heavy healthcare products.

Aidbox runs on PostgreSQL and supports FHIR STU3, R4, R5, and R6. It can be deployed in your own Azure subscription or used as a managed service.

What Aidbox includes

Aidbox combines a FHIR API with SQL, GraphQL, Bulk Data, and Subscriptions. FHIR resources are stored in PostgreSQL with JSONB, so teams can query clinical data directly with SQL instead of moving it into a separate analytics store first.

The platform also includes support for implementation guides such as US Core, CARIN Blue Button, Da Vinci, mCODE, and others. For security and access control, Aidbox supports OAuth 2.0, OpenID Connect, SMART App Launch, granular access policies, multitenancy, and audit logging.

Aidbox also includes terminology services for SNOMED CT, LOINC, and ICD-10, plus SDKs for TypeScript, C#, and Python. It is ISO 27001:2022 certified and supports HIPAA-aligned deployments.

Product modules

Aidbox is the core platform. Teams can add modules depending on the product they are building:

  • Formbox supports clinical forms based on FHIR Questionnaire and SDC.

  • Termbox provides FHIR terminology services for ValueSets and CodeSystems.

  • MDMbox helps manage master data for healthcare organizations.

  • Interbox handles healthcare integrations.

  • Payerbox supports CMS-0057 compliance and FHIR-based prior authorization workflows.

  • eRxbox covers electronic prescribing and medication management.

  • RCMbox supports configurable billing workflows.

Who uses Aidbox

  • Digital health startups and health IT vendors use Aidbox when they need a production-ready FHIR backend without building the full infrastructure from scratch.

  • Healthcare providers use it to bring fragmented clinical data into one standards-based store.

  • Health plans use Aidbox for interoperability, prior authorization, and payer data exchange.

  • Clinical data and AI teams use it for ingestion, validation, SQL access, analytics, and ML pipelines.

A production FHIR backend usually means more than a FHIR API. Teams also need storage, validation, terminology, access control, SMART on FHIR, audit logging, and operational support. Aidbox brings these parts together in one platform.

Today, 100+ healthcare clients in 30+ countries run Aidbox, with more than 1B FHIR resources in production.
