ThePoint Page Read
بواسطة ThePoint
Reading time and scroll progress for long SharePoint pages, with optional read tracking.
ThePoint Page Read shows readers how long a page will take to read, and how far through it they are. A slim progress bar sits at the top or bottom of the page and fills as they scroll, with an estimated reading time and a completion badge when they reach the end.
Built for internal comms, HR, and policy teams publishing long-form content on the intranet — staff handbooks, procedures, onboarding guides, compliance updates. Long pages stop feeling daunting when people can see how much is left, and you can optionally record who has read all the way to the bottom.
Key features
- Estimated reading time, calculated from the words on the page at a words-per-minute rate you set.
- Live scroll progress — a bar that fills as the reader moves down the page, with an optional percentage.
- Completion badge when the reader reaches the end.
- Optional read tracking — record who has read a page to the end, in a SharePoint list on your own site. One row per person per page. Off by default.
- Target specific pages — run everywhere, or only on the pages you name.
- Appears only on site pages — never on list views, the pages library, or system pages.
- Position and style — top or bottom, solid, gradient or pulse fill, adjustable thickness, and a collapsed mode near the top of the page.
- Theme aware — inherits your site's accent colour, or set your own.
- Deployed once as a SharePoint Application Customizer — no need to add anything to individual pages.
Privacy and permissions
This package contains a single SharePoint Framework (SPFx) extension, provisioned with one capability — a SharePoint Application Customizer. It does not include any Microsoft Teams components or app.
No API permissions are requested and no Microsoft Graph access is used. Reading time and progress are calculated entirely in the browser from the page you are already viewing; nothing is stored and nothing leaves your tenant.
If the optional read-tracking feature is switched on by an administrator, completed reads are written to a SharePoint list created on your own site, using the SharePoint REST API in the signed-in user's context. Each record holds the page address and title, the reader's name and sign-in name, the time, and the percentage read. This feature is off unless an administrator deliberately enables it, and no data is sent to any external service.
Licensing
A paid licence key is required for full functionality. The app runs in trial mode without a licence key; a trial banner appears alongside the bar and is removed once a valid paid licence key, purchased from ThePoint, is entered.
