WriteSight
بواسطة ScholarVera
Records how a document was written. Process, not detection. For a conversation, never a verdict.
WriteSight records how a document was written, the typing, pasting, and revision that built it, and stores that record inside the document itself. It gives instructors context for a conversation about writing, framed as observations rather than conclusions.
Most academic-integrity tools work by suspicion: they scan a finished document and return a probability that a student cheated. That number is unfalsifiable, the student cannot answer it, and the instructor is handed an accusation instead of a teaching moment. WriteSight takes the opposite approach. It surfaces what actually happened while the work was written, and frames it as something worth discussing, never as a finding.
How it works
- Records the writing process. Patterns of typing, pasting, and revision over time.
- WriteSight never sends the text of your document anywhere. The record is stored inside the .docx and travels with the file, so you keep your own copy of it.
- Tamper-evident. While you are signed in, WriteSight sends ScholarVera a timestamp request carrying only a random document identifier, a count of recorded events, and a short fingerprint of the record, which cannot be turned back into anything you wrote. That is what lets the record later be shown not to have been altered.
- Process, not a verdict. The reviewer view presents observations for a human conversation, never a misconduct determination or an "AI score."
- Optional AI-use declaration. A writer can state in their own words whether and how they used an AI tool. WriteSight does not verify it, contradict it, or compare it against the recording, and the report says so.
- Requires a recent build of Word. Word on the web, Word on Windows version 2205 or later, or Word on Mac version 16.61 or later. Word on iPad is not supported.
Account required
WriteSight requires a ScholarVera account, and access is provisioned by an instructor, program, or institution for a pilot or deployment. It is not a consumer self-serve tool. To learn about access for your course, program, or institution, contact us at scholarvera.com/support.
Privacy by design
WriteSight is built around one rule: it records how writing arrived, not what was written. The text of your document is never sent anywhere. The provenance record is written into your own document, so you hold your own copy of it. What WriteSight may hold about a signed-in account, how long it is kept, and what an institution can enable are described in our Privacy Policy.
