API Management Backup & Restore - APIM Disaster Recovery by UDX

What happens to your APIs if your API Management instance is deleted, corrupted, or misconfigured? APIM holds every API definition, policy, and product your integrations depend on - and Azure's built-in protection has real gaps: backup requires scripting against the management API, it is not available on the v2 tiers, and restores are impossible from backups older than 30 days. One bad deployment can mean rebuilding your API surface from memory.

API Management Backup by UDX is a service that runs in your own AKS cluster and provides backup and restore for your APIM instance using your own Azure Storage account - on a schedule you set, or on demand with one click.

How it works

• Your cluster, your storage. Deploys as an AKS extension directly from this listing. Backups land in a blob container in your subscription - your API configuration never leaves your tenant, and there is no third-party SaaS involved.
• Scheduled or on-demand. Set a cron schedule at deployment (hourly, nightly - any cron expression) or click Backup Now in the web UI. A typical backup takes 10-20 minutes, and your APIM instance keeps serving traffic the entire time.
• Complete configuration capture. API definitions, policies, and service configuration are exported in a format compatible with APIM's native import/export, so your backups stay portable.
• Restore to a known-good state. Plan and execute a restore from your latest backup when disaster recovery becomes more than a checkbox.
• No credentials to manage. Authentication is Azure Managed Identity and RBAC end to end - no keys or connection strings stored anywhere.
• Visible history. A web UI shows your APIM service details, backup history, and per-operation events; a /status endpoint plugs into your own monitoring.

Good fit if

• You run production workloads on Azure API Management and have no tested recovery path for the instance itself.
• Backups must stay inside your own subscription for audit or data-residency reasons.
• You want APIM disaster recovery without writing and maintaining your own scripts against the management API.
• You need to show auditors a working backup and recovery process. Configuration backup and disaster recovery are named controls in SOC 2 (Availability), PCI DSS, and FedRAMP / NIST 800-53 (CP-9 System Backup, CP-10 System Recovery) - this application gives you an automated, evidenced process for your APIM layer.

Pricing

One flat rate per cluster per hour, billed through your Azure subscription alongside your other Azure services. No per-instance or per-backup charges.
