Leaving a third party logistics provider and running your own warehouse is one of the few decisions in Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central that is genuinely difficult to undo. You cannot turn on bin functionality at a location that already has open item ledger entries. So the moment the first pallet comes off the truck from your old 3PL and gets received into an unconfigured location, the structure you have is the structure you are keeping, unless you are prepared to empty the location and start again.
Most retailers arrive at this in the wrong order. The lease is signed, the racking is ordered, the 3PL has been given notice, and the system conversation happens in the last two weeks. By then the decisions that mattered most have already been made by default.
