Tasks.md is a self hosted, Markdown file based task management board: a fast, minimalist kanban that stores every card as a plain .md file and every lane as a directory on the server's own filesystem. There is no database and no lock in, so your tasks are just Markdown you can read, edit, back up, version control or open in any editor. Application stack: the Tasks.md frontend (a SolidJS single page app with a rich Markdown editor) is built at install time and served as static assets by the Node.js backend. The backend is bound to the loopback address and an nginx reverse proxy fronts the application on ports 80 and 443, so the app is never exposed directly to the network. A systemd service starts it on boot and restarts it on failure.

Secure by default: Tasks.md has no built in authentication of its own, which means an unmodified deployment is open to anyone who can reach it. This image closes that gap. The application is bound to loopback only and nginx enforces HTTP Basic Auth in front of it, with a unique password generated for every instance on its first boot, stored in a root only file and never shared between deployments. A per instance self signed TLS certificate is generated on first boot so HTTPS works immediately on port 443, and no default or shared password ships in the image.

Ready to use: a small starter board ships preinstalled with To Do, In Progress and Done lanes and real Markdown cards, so you can see the drag and drop board, the Markdown editor, tags and due dates working the moment you sign in. Create lanes and cards in the interface and they appear as directories and files on the server; add, edit or remove Markdown files on the server and they appear on the board.
