Impostor Among Us Server on Ubuntu 24.04

بواسطة cloudimg

Private Among Us server: your own lobbies, matchmaking and anticheat on the standard port

Impostor is the standard open source private server for Among Us. Instead of playing over the official servers, you and your friends point your own game clients at a server you control: your own lobbies, your own rules, lower latency in the region you choose, and game traffic that never leaves infrastructure you own. Impostor reimplements the server side of the game protocol cleanly, supports current game clients, and can be extended through a first class plugin API.

This image delivers a working server within minutes of launch rather than a runtime you still have to configure. On its very first boot the machine resolves its own public address and writes it into the server configuration, which matters because the matchmaker hands that address back to every joining player; get it wrong and lobby joins fail even with the ports open. The modern game client connects in two steps, an HTTP matchmaking exchange followed by the UDP game transport, and both are already configured on the standard port 22023. A connection note with the exact address and port to give your players is written for the administrator at first boot, and the sign in message on the console shows it on every login.

Security follows the nature of the product. A game server is public by design, there is no admin password to manage and this image does not invent one. Instead the service itself is contained: it runs as a dedicated system account with no shell under a strict systemd sandbox, with anticheat checks enabled in the shipped configuration and the debug game recorder switched off. The .NET runtime it runs on is installed from the Ubuntu archive, so ordinary security updates keep the entire runtime stack current automatically.

A self test command ships in the image and proves the server end to end at any time: it fetches the server hello page, requests a real matchmaking token, and performs a live handshake against the game port using the game's own wire protocol. The paired cloudimg deployment guide walks through opening the network ports, generating the region file players import into their game, hosting your first lobby, installing plugins and upgrading the server.

Licensing is the GNU General Public License version 3, completely free with no per player or per lobby fee. The cloudimg charge covers packaging, security patching, image maintenance and 24/7 expert support. Recommended size is Standard_B2s; the server used about 30 MB of memory while accepting connections on this image.

Players connect using their own legitimately purchased copies of Among Us; this image contains no game content or assets. Among Us is a trademark of Innersloth LLC. Impostor is community software; cloudimg and Impostor are not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by Innersloth. The name identifies the open source server software packaged in this image.
