Database schema exploration, design and documentation tool, ready on first boot
Azimutt on Ubuntu 24.04 LTS
Azimutt is an open source database schema exploration, design and documentation tool. It renders entity relationship diagrams for large, complex schemas, lets you search and navigate across tables and columns, and explore live data across relational and NoSQL databases, all from a single web application.
What is included
- Azimutt, the MIT licensed self hosted application, pinned by image digest
- A bundled PostgreSQL metadata database, pinned by digest and reachable only inside a private container network
- Docker Engine with Azimutt on the loopback interface behind nginx on port 80
- A unique administrator account, application secret and database password generated per VM on first boot
- Self registration locked to this VM by default, so a public appliance cannot be seized by an outside sign up
- 24/7 cloudimg support
Secure by default
Self hosted Azimutt has no seeded administrator and open registration by default, which is a risk on a public server. This image closes it: on first boot, before the port is reachable, a unique administrator account and its own workspace are created through Azimutt's own sign up code path, and further self registration is locked to this VM so nobody else can create an account. PostgreSQL is never exposed on a host port.
Licensing
Azimutt is free and open source under the MIT License, shipped unmodified, with no cloud account or licence key required for the self hosted app used here. There is no per seat fee. The cloudimg charge of 0.04 US dollars per vCPU hour covers packaging, security patching, image maintenance and 24/7 support. Recommended size: Standard_B2s. This image is produced by cloudimg and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Azimutt.
Before you start
Azimutt is served over plain HTTP on port 80. Front it with TLS and your own domain and restrict the network security group before production. Prerequisites: an Azure subscription, a VNet and an SSH key. Inbound rules: port 22 for SSH and port 80 for the web interface.
