The EPWP Digital Attendance and Workforce Management Platform is a modern, fully integrated solution designed to replace the Eastern Cape Department of Transport’s outdated, paper-based processes for managing over 30,000 Expanded Public Works Programme (EPWP) participants. Built on the Microsoft Power Platform, the solution delivers a unified, automated, and audit-ready environment for attendance tracking, performance monitoring, payroll alignment, and operational oversight.

At its core, the platform leverages Microsoft Power Apps for easy, mobile-first check-ins and check-outs using ID scanning or manual entry. This ensures accurate, real-time attendance data capture across multiple job sites. Integrated Azure Maps services provide geolocation validation, ensuring that worker presence is verified through GPS and reverse geocoding — a critical capability for remote and rural sites.

All operational data synchronises seamlessly into Microsoft Dataverse, enabling secure, structured storage and organisation-wide scalability. Through Power Automate, workflows such as attendance logging, location validation, and data exchange with payroll systems are intelligently automated, eliminating the risk of human error and reducing administrative burden.
To support data-driven decision-making, Power BI provides real-time dashboards and analytics that surface insights into attendance patterns, performance indicators, and SLA compliance, giving supervisors, project managers, and administrators full visibility across the programme.

Designed with governance and compliance in mind, the platform incorporates role-based access control to ensure that the right stakeholders have access to the right data, thereby strengthening audit reliability and financial accountability.
